Breaking Ground on the Future of Education

Last Friday, Dickinson Public Schools officially broke ground on the new Dickinson High School, marking a significant step forward in the district’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities.


The new facility will feature a three-story academic wing, a modern media center, a state-of-the-art theater, dedicated music classrooms, and a centralized student commons that will tie the entire campus together.


The academic wing will include 28 general academic classrooms, four fully equipped science labs, two FACS and foods labs, and an early childhood education lab—designed to support a variety of learning experiences.


The new high school is scheduled to open in 2027, and the district is excited about the opportunities it will offer to current and future students.

In 2023, ICON was hired by Dickinson Public Schools to assist with a referendum for renovation and addition of the existing high school. Due to an increase in enrollment, it was identified that there was a need for additional classroom space. Additionally, there was $35 Million in updates and repairs needed for roofing, fire protection, electrical upgrades, ADA accommodations, and safe and secure entrances for several elementary schools. The vote passed with 70.6% approval.


Dickinson High School was in need of facility modernization and maintenance projects. The district and City of Dickinson had twice tried to pass as successful bond referendum for renovations and or additions at the High School. The 2023 bond attempt was different; with over 70% approval rating the community supported the $69M ask from the district.


The existing building was utilized to the fullest capacity. With over 20,000SF of remodel space many of the existing spaces will be revamped for new functions. The existing building servs as a host to the administrative suite, chemistry rooms, and an art classroom. The existing building is being modernized with building fire sprinklers, updated fire alarms, and modernized mechanical systems.
