Q and A with Alyssa
What's your name, and what do you do here at ICON?
I’m Alyssa and I am an Architect and Project Manager here at ICON.
What’s your favorite part of working at ICON?
It is an even split between the people I work with, the projects I get to work on, and the variety each day brings! I can be trudging through sand in a basement one day and meeting with a senator the next and everything in between.
How do you stay motivated and keep a positive attitude at work?
I truly love what I do and enjoy staying busy so motivation and positivity come easy. I tend to always have something caffeinated in hand to keep up the energy and focus throughout the day.
Tell us something unique or fun about yourself that most people don't know.
Something quirky about me is that it is rare to come to my desk and find less than 3 beverages at all times. I like to have options.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or work routine?
Digital tools are great and keep me organized (ex: synced google and outlook calendars and google keeps lists), but I do like writing out a to do list and the feeling of crossing items off as I complete them. I am always looking for suggestions or trying something new that might be more efficient.

What’s one of your proudest achievements here at ICON?
I think being here for 10 years is a huge achievement! Besides that, I am really proud of the connections I have made with clients that continue to return to work with me.
Who or what inspires you, both inside and outside of work?
Inside of work, I am inspired by the work we do and the energy my coworkers bring. I want to bring my A game because everyone else is. Outside of work, my family (my husband, two corgi fur babies, and my daughter) are my motivation.

What’s your favorite team tradition or work moment?
Amanda and I both end a lot of internal conversations with “Ok, Love you, Bye!” after she ended a meeting like that once. I also really enjoy our office potlucks. I have learned that every single person here makes great desserts!

If you could describe your work style in three words, what would they be?
Driven, Thoughtful and Receptive.
Driven: I get stuff done.
Thoughtful: I consider every choice I make and its impact.
Receptive: I am open to new ideas and opinions people bring to the table.
What's one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out in your role?
Say yes to opportunities. Saying yes has allowed me to find a niche of architecture I love, travel, and get into the role I am in now.
