ALL SEASONS ARENA

MANDAN, ND

With the City of Mandan opening a new ice arena, the Mandan Park District decided to repurpose an outdated ice facility located adjacent to the high school. ICON assisted in converting the former ice arena into a multi-purpose gymnasium to provide additional space for both high school sports practices and to support local youth recreation events. With the removal of the ice rink and bleachers, the arena area was free to be re-purposed into a space with three basketball and volleyball courts. In addition to the courts, two retractable batting cage nets were provided, allowing for baseball and softball practice to occur in the gym. The playing surface is comprised of a traditional wood floor on one end, and a flexible multi-use playing surface on the other to support all the different possible activities.

Project challenges included incorporating a new overhead structure into the existing pre-engineered metal building in order to support the gym equipment; retrofitting the space with a new air conditioning system; ensuring the two different playing surfaces were level with each other; and incorporating a new insulated wall and ceiling liner building system.
